Big Data Architect

Position:              Big Data Architect
Contract:             6 Month + Contract
Location:             Memphis, TN & Remote

The Big Data Architect will need to be a data expert as well as have depth in integration strategies, and new technologies (ex. Cloud, SaaS, etc.) in order to generate Canonical Data Models and Definitions, ultimately leading to a robust Data Architecture supported by a robust Data Governance framework. The Big Data Architect will be participating in project activities including data governance framework design, conceptual and logical data architecture models (technical and business views), canonical data models, and information management standards. This person provides subject matter expertise with thorough understanding of interdependencies of integrated systems, including middleware and the business triggers of the end-points. They will need to answer client questions ranging from “what data tooling do we need” to “how do we manage data and reduce duplicative data flows” and “how do we establish a data governance practice.” The resource will design data-driven analysis and analytics architecture solutions, and provide subsequent technical support in the areas of data federation, utilizing a common user interface within a services oriented architecture (SOA) environment, design and deploy predictive models to solve business problems using the best-in-class data mining, machine learning, and statistical modeling techniques.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with customer contacts and technical teams to

a)      Implement Big Data Governance, including organization structures, critical roles, related architecture and tooling, metrics and security processes

b)      Design, develop and deploy data-driven predictive models to solve business problems using the best-in-class data mining, machine learning, and statistical modeling techniques

c)       Document, review, and validate integration and data interchange specifications by utilizing Use Cases, functional specifications, and practical UML (Activity Diagrams, Sequence Diagrams, etc.)

d)      Identify new internal and external data sources that will generate value to the customers; work closely with data teams to put these data sources into production for the use of the modeling teams

  • Lead, plan, facilitate data analysis on integration functional and non-functional requirements and validation sessions; assist clients in prioritization for phased implementation
  • Design and instantiate enterprise data models
  • Profile data from disparate systems to derive enterprise canonical data models and Data Analytics and advanced BI reporting
  • Conducts business analysis, event modeling, data strategy design and implementation, and designs data security and data management procedures
  • Grow the size and skills of the customer team in the modeling and data science space
  • Develop and communicate measurable goals, strategies, and tactics for data teams
  • Play a key role in selecting and managing vendors as necessary
  • Partner with Stakeholders to formulate MDM / BI strategies
  • Collaborate with team members to document detailed information interchange flows that enable business systems functions; collaborate with resources to resolve complex system issues, when required
  • Communicate status regularly; identify and escalate risks related to scope, timeline, and quality to project leads in a timely fashion

 REQUIREMENTS:

  • 6+ years of experience in enterprise architecture, business analysis, and gathering & documenting of data requirements from business & technical users
  • 4+ years of recent experience in business process and information systems architecture
  • Demonstrated experience designing a big data virtualization architecture and underlying analytics framework
  • Experience with Pivotal, Platfora, TerraData and related Big Data and Analytics tools
  • Prior documented experience creating and measuring the success of a Data Science based organization
  • Proven ability facilitating negotiation of competing requirements among stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various techniques for gathering & documenting data requirements, including use cases, conceptual & logical data modeling, and flow diagramming
  • Outstanding communication, organization, time management, interpersonal skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks with strict deadlines
  • BA or BS Degree in Information Management, Business, Finance, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
